This Apprenticeship can be applied across a broad range of sectors and job roles. Good managers and team leaders are essential to the success of any business, so the skills gained on this Apprenticeship are transferable and valuable.
Learning will be tailored to your industry, but it is likely you will be responsible for the delivery of a service, or how other people carry out their work. You could be working as a shift leader, charge hand, section leader, team leader, floor manager, trainee manager, deputy manager, or supervisor. On your Apprenticeship in Team Leading, you will learn the theories of team leading and how business works. You will manage your own workload; lead others; work effectively with other people; and learn how to get your point across through talking and discussion with others. On the Advanced Apprenticeship in Management, you will be able to understand the theories of management, and how to source, understand, present and explain work related figures and calculations. Depending on the focus of your job, you might learn other skills like how to allocate and check other peoples work; plan and implement change; manage a project or budget; encourage innovation; carry out operational plans; recruit staff; or develop customer service skills.
Team Leader Supervisor Standard Level 3
A Team leader or supervisor is a first line management role, with operational and project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.
Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.
What will you learn
Different leadership styles and the benefits of coaching to support people and improve performance.
People and team management models, including team dynamics and motivation techniques.
Approaches to customer and stakeholder relationship management, including emotional intelligence and managing conflict
How organisational strategy is developed. How to implement operational and team plans and manage resources and approaches to managing change within the team. Understand data management, and the use of different technologies in business
The training will include
Face to face and/or remote workshops together with online learning
1:1 support from a Tutor who will visit your workplace
Progress reviews to be completed with your Tutor and line manager
Development of a work-based portfolio to evidence learning
End-point assessment (EPA)
Functional Skills English and/or maths Level 2, if required
The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade 4 or higher.
In order to complete the apprenticeship, you will need English and maths at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade 9-4), but if you don’t have these qualifications don’t let this stop you from undertaking the apprenticeship as we can help you gain the Level 2 requirement during your studies.
12 months plus 4 months EPA
On completion, apprentices may choose to register as Associate Members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of leadership and management, to support their professional career development and progression.
Operations or Departmental Manager Standard Level 5
An Operations or Departmental Manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisation’s strategy. They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same. Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring.
Project management techniques and tools.
Operational management approaches and models, including creating plans to deliver objectives and setting KPIs. Understand business development tools (eg SWOT), and approaches to continuous improvement.
Operational business planning techniques, including how to manage resources, development of sales and marketing plans, setting targets and monitoring performance.
Different leadership styles, how to lead multiple and remote teams and manage team leaders. Know how to motivate and improve performance, supporting people using coaching and mentoring approaches.
24 months plus 5 months EPA
On completion, apprentices can register as full members with the Chartered management institute and/or the Institute of leadership and management, and those with 3 years of management experience can apply for Chartered manager status through the CMI.
