The business was originally started by Herbert Rothwell, a distinguished ex-serviceman, who in January 1947 set up a small engineering supply enterprise in his garden shed. Herbert's enterprise very quickly proved so successful that he moved into larger premises; eventually erecting a purpose-built warehouse at the corner of Duke Street in Rochdale; the home of their present head office.

Brief overview of the role

Responsible for the effective and efficient serving of customers, smooth running of the warehouse and despatch environment, people and processes

Key tasks;

  • Serve customers at the trade counters
  • Create sales orders notes
  • Be polite and courteous always
  • Ensure all goods inwards are processed in accordance with laid down procedures
  • Ensure all goods outwards are processed in accordance with laid down procedures.
  • Ensure that the trade counter and warehouse areas are always kept clean and tidy and free from hazards
  • Replenish displays and make sure all areas are stocked up, including literature.
  • Ensure all damaged stock is handled appropriately
  • Liaise with the sales office, administrators, suppliers and carriers
  • Ensure Health and Safety procedures in the warehouse are adhered to
  • Collect and Deliver any goods required by the business
  • Carry out other tasks in the business as deemed necessary within your capabilities

How we will support you; Full training and support will be provided by Rochdale Training Association to help you attain your Apprenticeship and progress. Our Tutors will visit you at your place of work to fully support you.
