A Level 3 ICT Business Support Apprentice within Rochdale Council's Neighbourhoods service is required to undertake a range of business/technical support functions in response to service specific needs or instructions from senior staff, to include data input, process of mail, collation of information, work processing, supporting customer queries.

Principal Duties  

To undertake a range of business / technical support functions in response to service specific needs or instructions from senior staff, including:  

  • Data input and retrieval Contract Management records – electronic and paper
  • Processing and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail
  • Assisting in the procurement of goods and services
  • Maintaining data quality in relation to all ICT Business records
  • Preparation and collation of information
  • Assisting with the collection of data for Service Key Performance Indicators for client meetings
  • Checking documents / information
  • Word processing
  • Supporting customer queries  
  • To assist in the establishment and maintenance of appropriate systems and procedures, both manual and computerised.  
  • To receive enquiries / request for service in a courteous and customer-friendly manner and record and direct as appropriate.   To undertake general business support functions, as appropriate, e.g. photo-copying, file / information retrieval, mail-merge and post duties.  
  • To assist in the maintenance of computerised / manual information systems and updating of records.  
  • To provide assistance to Service Delivery & Assurance Manager and senior ICT managers, advising them of any key issues and problems arising from services or projects being delivered.  
  • To maintain safe and responsible working methods in accordance with legal requirements and good employment practice and to ensure all relevant Health and Safety procedures are adhered to at all times.  
  • To provide technical and practical assistance; information and guidance on any issues relating to the provision of services provided by ICT Operations.  
  • To support Rochdale Borough Council in delivering ICT functions internally to the council services and externally to out-side public bodies and service agreement subscribers  
  • To gain work skills, qualifications and experience to help the participant increase their confidence and experience and enable them to apply for further employment with the Council or other organisations.  
  • To be responsible to the Service Delivery & Assurance Manager for the efficient and effective provision of a wide range of business / technical support functions within ICT Operations.  
  • To be part of a team providing a flexible, efficient and effective support in accordance with Council policies and procedures   To contribute to providing the best service possible to the people of the Borough of Rochdale in accordance with Council policies and procedures  
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by your line manager

Things to consider

There may be some evening or early morning work to support members of the team. You will need to confirm you are willing to provide this support if and when required.
This Apprenticeship post is for 18 months, £9000.00 for the first 12 months, the final 6 months at NMW. From 1st of April 2018 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Those between the ages of 19-24 who are in their second year (or third year) need to be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. In April 2016 the new National Living Wage was implemented and therefore if you are over the age of 25 and in your second or third year of an Apprenticeship you will be entitled to be paid the National Living Wage.
