Promat has been trusted for over 40 years with making construction materials which protect buildings and their inhabitants from the spread of fire. It’s passive fire protection and high performance insulation is used across a diverse range of industries.

The Heywood based team are looking to recruit a Mechanical Manufacturing Apprentice to support its manufacturing systems. The job role will include standard machinery, CNC machinery, laser cutting, and hand manipulation with the opportunity to progress into 2D and 3D CAD drawing/CNC programming.

Vacancy description

As an operator you will be responsible for performing operational functions on a variety of CNC and or manual machines. In this role you will be responsible for quality control of product and preventative maintenance on all machines and processes.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Using hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Conversant with Engineering drawing practice
  • Assisting in other production tasks
  • Ensuring a smooth handover at the start and finish of your shift
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping practices
  • Apply best practice standards in all areas of Health and Safety, quality procedures, Standard
  • Operating Procedures & Job Safety Analysis systems
  • Proactively identify & make recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure provided personal protective equipment is maintained & used as prescribed, replenishing as necessary

Desired skills

  • A practical aptitude for Engineering
  • PC literate with the ability to accurately document/record information
  • Good communication skills and organised
  • Health & Safety aware

  • Have an interest in how things work or are manufactured
  • Effective at following instructions
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • You will be committed and motivated to complete college and NVQ assignments

Desired qualifications

  • Completion of a related Engineering college course is highly desirable. 
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Maths and English (Grade 4-9)

How we will support you;

Full training and support will be provided by Rochdale Training Association to help you attain your Apprenticeship and progress. Our Engineering tutors will visit you in your place of work to fully support you.

National Apprenticeship Week - 4th-8th March 2019. Rochdale Training are holding an Open Day/Evening 10am until 7.30pm. Come along to meet our training officers to ask questions and take a look around our facilities.
