Apprentice Service & Maintenance Engineer

The role will be working directly with the engineering director learning the skills and knowledge required to complete the installation, service, maintenance and repair needs of our customer's equipment. Working on large industrial air conditioning and filtration systems.

Main Duties to Include:

The role will be working directly with the engineering director learning the skills and knowledge required to complete the installation, service, maintenance and repair needs of our customer's equipment.

Running alongside an industry-recognised college qualification. To complete your college studies, we will ensure that you develop a portfolio of work that represents your activities in the workplace

  • Establish and maintain proper business relationships with customers and peers as well as perform necessary administrative duties as required and other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and apply mechanical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and solve issues, which may be explained in repair manuals or through instructions issued by the company.
  • The role can be crucial in preventing critical issues with HVAC systems that are critical for our customer's health & safety compliance.
  • There will also be a requirement to carry out system cleaning, store stock checks/tidying also HVAC & electrical installation work from time to time.
  • Learn how to undertake installation, service, commissioning and breakdown work as required within the UK.
  • Develop skills to complete risk assessments & method statements and maintain safety standards. 
  • Learn about and identify our system's spare parts.
  • Complete reports of all Service / Commissioning / Breakdown and LEV testing.
  • Develop skills to carry out electrical & mechanical installation as required
  • Work to ISO9001-2015 guidelines.
  • Working at height including mobile elevated work platforms & scaffold towers.
  • Understand and work on control panels and PLC systems
  • Mechanical installation work of ducting, pipework and plant

The role regularly requires working long hours on sites across the UK with accommodation and meals provided by the company if working distances cannot be travelled within the working day.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade C / 4 and above) essential

Hours:

Monday to Thursday, 8 hours a day Friday, 4 hours a day

Training:

  • Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Apprenticeship learning to take place in the workplace and day release to Rochdale Training Centre. 

Progression:

Once qualified progression is offered to the correct candidate, this could be the following training:

  • IPAF – driving scissor lift/boom lifts
  • LEV testing – P601 Examination & Testing Local exhaust ventilation systems
  • CSCS card  – To enable access to customer’s sites and premises and to work in a safe manner
