You will support teachers in the classroom, help students reach their full potential, and gain hands-on experience in an educational environment while completing your apprenticeship.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant at Hollingworth Academy, you will work under the direction of teachers and other staff to provide learning support to students across various subjects and year groups.

Your main duties will include:

  • Assisting teachers with classroom preparation and organisation
  • Supporting pupils individually or in small groups to reinforce learning
  • Helping manage pupil behaviour and promote positive engagement
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs or disabilities
  • Assisting with the assessment of pupils’ progress and recording information
  • Helping set up and clear away classroom materials and resources
  • Supervising pupils during lessons, breaks, and school activities
  • Promoting inclusion, wellbeing, and the school’s values at all times

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people and is passionate about helping them succeed.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Course contents

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

  • Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • Training delivered in partnership with Rochdale Training through a combination of workplace learning and off-the-job training

Requirements

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade Grade 4/C or above) essential

After this apprenticeship

 

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you may progress into a permanent Teaching Assistant role at Hollingworth Academy or continue training towards higher-level education or child support qualifications.
