Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- To work towards & achieve NVQ 2 or equivalent within timescale agreed by the training provider & employer.
- Adhere to the policies & procedures of The Bridge Day Nursery and compliance with the children act, Health & Safety legislation and within the guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage Welfare requirements.
- To gain a paediatric 1st aid certificate.
- Be prepared to take part in other necessary training.
- Work & interact with children.
- Work well within a team.
- Liaise with parents
- To work towards delivering exceptional learning opportunities and care that help young children to develop.
- To work towards planning and providing teaching and learning that prepares children for their next stage in life.
- To learn how to Observe children, plan developmental next steps for each child and individualised learning plans in accordance with Early Years Foundation Stage learning & development and implement these skills.
- To help to develop and deliver Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for all the children in your care.
- To learn how to keep up-to-date individual records of key children.
- To learn how to plan session/daily/medium term plans & then be able to do independently within timescale set by supervisor.
- To learn how to set up an exciting, enabling environment for children indoors & outdoors. Then do this independently within timescale set by supervisor.
- To interact and respond to children’s play.
- To talk to children at a level they understand.
- Check toys & equipment, maintain a clean, safe & secure environment
- To prepare activities in advance.
- Prepare snack & fruit.
- To work positively as a team member and be included in staff duty Rota’s.
- Required to attend staff meetings.
- To work as a reliable and enthusiastic member of the team.
- To settle in new children & liaise with their parents. When talking to parents always end on a positive note.
- To conform to nursery dress code.
- To ensure confidentiality is maintained in the nursery.
- To take on whatever duties are deemed necessary for the smooth running of the nursery.
- To encourage children at mealtimes
- To put into practice nursery policies
- Have a sense of humour
- Be a good communicator

Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications
- GCSE Maths & English (Grade 4 or above) essential

You will need to be prepared to undertake a DBS check for this position and it is then the responsibility of the candidate to register for the DBS update service.
