Vacancy:

 

1. With your assigned mentor (Electrical or Mechanical), view the workload for the day, whether it be Regular Planned Maintenance tasks such as testing of machine interlocks, topping up oil and grease points for machine bearings and motors, or Unplanned works (breakdowns/faults) such as machines not starting, or belts have come off some machines’ motor pulleys.

2. Plan in which order the work will be tackled and completed and obtain any documentation (Safety Permits) and parts that might be required, then progress to carrying out the work. As an apprentice, you will assist the skilled and qualified mentor in both types of repairs, being taught which equipment/tools to use and how to use them correctly to affect the repairs.

3. Complete paperwork and computer feedback on the work completed so that comprehensive and detailed information is recorded on the actions and repairs. Other duties and actions could be;

4. Assisting with the installation of wiring systems and electrical fixtures

5. Assisting and performing testing and diagnostics on mechanical and electrical equipment/machines

6. Assisting and performing routine maintenance tasks such as fire alarm testing and sprinkler pump testing.

7. Following electrical codes, blueprints, and standards to maintain safety and compliance

8. Collaborating with other mechanics and electricians to coordinate installations and repairs

9. Learning to read and interpret technical documents and drawings

10. Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order

11. Participating in training sessions, workshops and Tool Box Talks (briefings) to enhance skills and understanding of the field

12. Ordering parts as required

13. Observing and learning from senior mechanics/electricians to build industry knowledge and skills

14. Completing daily/weekly log-book on information gained and tasks completed

15. (If full qualifications have yet to be attained) Attending College as regularly as required to complete formal academic training and professional qualifications

Weekly Wage:

From £399 dependent upon experience.

Working Week:

Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm (but can be somewhat flexible), 37.5 hours per week (half hour unpaid lunch daily, paid breaks)

Future Prospects:

This is a permanent position. Those who successfully complete the apprenticeship and meet the standards required will have the opportunity to become a fully-fledged Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with the commensurate associated salary.

Location Type:

Based at the Rochdale site. Possible occasional visits to our Heywood, Trafford Park and South Normanton sites.

Standard Title: Engineering Operative level 2

Training provided: This would consist of a block release preferably 1 week per month

Expected Apprenticeship Duration: 12 months plus 3 months end point assessment

Apprentices are likely to work as part of a multi-level, multi-skilled and diverse team and must be keen and able to develop and contribute to the group’s success as a whole. Apprentices need to be able to follow instructions clearly and work well as a team with varying levels of supervision and self-motivation Computer Literate Must be able to efficiently and effectively use a computer, good knowledge of Microsoft office, Excel, e mails and others

Qualifications: · Typically, 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or higher including maths, English and science, or equivalent and/or relevant experience, however applicants without this will still be considered · NVQ level 1 in Engineering Maintenance subject would be advantageous.

Other: Must be able to commute to our Rochdale site. Very rarely, there may be occasions to work overtime to meet operational demands. Must be capable of carrying out the physical aspects of the job (e.g., lifting, bending, enclosed spaces, manual dexterity). Must be eligible to work in the UK.
