WELDING BOOT CAMP EMPLOYMENT SUCCESS.
Pressed Flights Limited is a specialist engineering company based in Littleborough. They manufacture and repair a wide range of screw conveyors and screw feeders, including specials and augers, which are all based on the principle of an Archimedean Screw and are used in an extensive range of applications in a wide variety of industries.
Ajmal Alfrid originally went to university and gained a degree in Architecture, once he had completed the course he found a job where his main task was data entry, and he realised quickly that this wasn’t the career for him. Ajmal had a passion for blacksmithing and his leading hobby was making bespoke cutlery.
At Rochdale Training we offer Skills Bootcamps, Skills Bootcamps are funded through the Department of Education’s National Skills Fund and are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer.
After being signed up for the Skills Bootcamp in Welding at Rochdale Training, he knew that this is what he wanted to do. Ajmal said, “Rochdale Training is a fantastic learning environment, the tutor Ryan Griffin had a wealth of knowledge and could build up my basic skills.”
Previously Ajmal had signed up for a virtual Welding course with another provider but found it was a waste of time as he wanted to develop his practical skills and that was impossible while learning remotely.

While Ajmal was still on the course, pressed flights approached Engineering Chief Instructor, Bill Sandilands, to see if he could recommend anyone from the Bootcamp as they were looking for some new staff. Bill put forward Ajmal’s CV and he was then offered a permanent position.
Ajmal said “I found the course an amazing opportunity, everyone was nice and very helpful, the Boot Camp has got me where I want to be, and the opportunity I was offered, I would have been crazy to turn it down. I have obtained skills and secured employment in a role that I love, my dream has always been to work with steel and Rochdale Training has helped turn my dreams into reality.”
Ajmal is already progressing at Pressed Flights, here is what Production Director Gina Binford had to say about his progress “Ajmal is brilliant and will receive ongoing training to develop more skills. I would recommend recruiting from the boot camp if you are looking for a Welder as the staff we have recruited are work-ready, more mature and are also aware of the working world and most importantly, want to do the work.”
