An exciting opportunity to join St Mary’s CE Primary School as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice. You will support classroom learning, pupil development and wellbeing while working towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The postholder will work under the direction, guidance and direct supervision of the classroom teacher to support access to learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Helping to Keep Children Safe
- Preparing and maintaining a safe and hygienic environment
- Dealing with accidents, emergencies and illness appropriately
- Supporting safeguarding procedures
- Encouraging positive behaviour
2. Supporting Learning Activities
- Supporting the teacher in planning learning activities
- Assisting with the delivery of lessons
- Supporting the evaluation of learning activities
3. Supporting Children’s Development
- Contributing to children’s physical, emotional and social development
- Supporting communication and intellectual development
4. Contributing to Positive Relationships
- Interacting effectively with children and adults
- Communicating clearly and professionally
5. Supporting Colleagues
- Maintaining positive working relationships
- Developing effectiveness in a classroom support role
6. Supporting Play and Learning
- Encouraging creativity in physical play
- Offering varied play opportunities
- Supporting children’s rights and choices in play
7. Supporting Children with SEND
- Providing care, encouragement and personal hygiene support where required
- Supporting participation in activities and learning experiences
8. Moving and Handling
- Preparing children, environments and equipment
- Supporting children with mobility difficulties safely
9. Classroom Environment
- Setting up, maintaining and dismantling classroom displays
10. Promoting Positive Behaviour
- Implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
- Supporting pupils to take responsibility for their learning and conduct

Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

- Day release or structured sessions with Rochdale Training
- Workplace observation and assessment
- Knowledge of safeguarding, behaviour management and SEND
Requirements
Potentially cover at multiple schools in the trust.
Essential qualifications
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English
