Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Key Responsibilities:

Manual Welding: The primary task is to perform welding operations on various metal plates and pipework on pressure vessels and pipework using different welding techniques.

Quality Control: Ensuring welds meet specific quality standards and specifications is crucial.

Material Preparation: Preparing materials for welding, including cleaning, cutting, and ensuring proper alignment.

Welding Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining various welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding machines.

Reading and Interpreting Drawings: Understanding and interpreting technical drawings and specifications to accurately weld components.

Inspection and Testing: Inspecting welds for defects and using precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy.

Safety Compliance: Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations related to welding and working in a metal fabrication environment.

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade Grade 4/C or above) essential
