Are you looking to get into a career with the NHS? This course will give you the knowledge and understanding of key principles and values required to work in a GP Surgery.

This course is designed for you to gain the knowledge and qualifications to become part of a customer service/administration team within the NHS, offering excellent customer service to patients. As part of the course you will be offered a two-week work placement where you will be a friendly face that will assist patients, whether that be helping with a query or welcoming people for an appointment. Following your work placement you will receive a guaranteed interview for a role.

If you are successful at interview you will be based on Reception completing a selection of tasks that assist with the daily running of the business operations including answering the telephones and liaising with the wider practice team. You will be trained in all areas including proactive data quality support to ensure accurate completion of records held at the surgery, signposting patients to appropriate services outside of the GP surgery and working as part of a busy, well established team.

Entry Requirements:

  • Candidates must be 19+
  • Candidates must be a Greater Manchester Resident
  • You must be committed for the full duration of the course
  • Not already enrolled on any other funded course
  • Photo identification required

The Training:

You will achieve a fully accredited level 1 Customer Service qualification.

Course Overview - Customer Service

This qualification will enable learners to develop a basic knowledge of the customer service sector and is aimed at those learners who wish to explore roles in this field.

Duties to Include Once Employed:

  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring caller safely directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms as required
  • Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
  • Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required
  • Keeping the reception area, noticeboards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter

  • Information Session: Wednesday 26th July (09:30 -12:00)
  • (please confirm attendance via email.)
  • Start Date with Rochdale Training: Tuesday 8th August (09:30-14:30), (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays)
  • 2-Week Work Placement: W/C 11th September, (5 Days per week over 2 weeks)
