Summary
Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a friendly image to patients and visitors. Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional. Undertaking a variety of admin duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system.
- Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
- Taking the post at the end of the shift, taking messages, retrieving medical records.
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines.
- Registering patients
- Updating computer systems, summarising medical records using the correct read codes.
- Ordering, re ordering and monitoring of stationary and other supplies.
- Dealing with clinical waste, providing refreshments for staff and visitors, keeping the kitchen area tidy as well as the kitchen area.
- Scanning letters onto the clinical system. Supporting the nursing team in Quality outcomes framework.
- Cleaning and restoking consulting room
- Alert other team members to issues of quality and risks, assess own performance and take accountability for your own actions

Essential qualifications
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade Grade 4/C or above) essential
